Royal Militia Artillery Officer’s Full Dress Shako c. 1853-55, being a fine and rare example of 1844 Albert pattern, the beaver coloured body with a black patent leather sunken top, bound black patent leather front and rear peaks and a black patent leather bottom bracing band, the superb gilt metal frontal plate being an uncrowned eight pointed star mounted with the Royal Arms and motto over a cannon and a scroll at the bottom ‘Royal Militia Artillery’, correct pattern silver plated chin chain with side ornaments featuring a laurel leaf decorated disc and mounted centrally with fused grenades, a large plated clip for hooking up the chin chain to the right side, buff leather sweat band and crimson silk lining, ornate gilt metal plume holder being a large fused grenade, the ball mounted with a crowned ‘VR’ cypher, now fitted with an incorrect plume, a small loss of the beaver above the plate and one grub nip at the rear otherwise in extremely fine condition (2) £1000-1500
