Victory Medal 1914-19 (6917 Pte. G. Burrows. S. Lan. R.) very fine £60-80
George Burrows, a native of St Helens, Lancashire, served during the Great War on the Western Front with the 2nd Battalion South Lancashire Regiment, landing in France on 14 August 1914. He was killed in action 10 days later, on 24 August 1914, defending the town of Framieres from a heavy German counter-attack, one of the first British casualties of the Great War. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial, France.
