William Crawford Browne was born on 9 March 1819. He was appointed Assistant Surgeon, Bombay Medical Department, on 3 November 1845; Surgeon, 10 September 1862. Served in the Indian Mutiny 1857-58, and was present at the actions at Kotah and Bunas. He died at Exeter on 26 August 1863.
