Joseph Francis Edward McQuade was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, and attested for the Northumberland Fusiliers. He served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 13 August 1914, and was awarded the Military Medal in 1916. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 28 March 1918; he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
