The Royal Berkshire Regiment, 1st Volunteer Battalion Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1885-1901, the skull complete with all plated fittings, the spike being of other ranks pattern, the frontal plate of crowned star pattern with laurel and Garter overlays, in the centre on a red cloth ground a broken tree and stag motif, double scroll at the bottom ‘Royal Berkshire Regiment’ ‘1st Volunteer Battalion’, buff leather sweatband with crimson silk lining, the plate is original to the helmet, the rear peak area badly buckled and soft, leather trim missing from the same area, the cloth considerably worn round the frontal peak and other areas £160-260
