M.M. London Gazette 11 February 1919.

Arthur William Ruffle served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, Durham Light Infantry in the French theatre of war from 8 September 1914. He was discharged 31 March 1920, having served 10 years and 50 days with the Colours. He Character Certificate gives the following:

‘Exemplary Soldier, hardworking. Has been an Officer’s Servant & a groom. A brave soldier, awarded the Military Medal for Bravery in the Field.’
