Howard Peet, a tobacconist by trade, served during the Great War with Grimsby Special Constabulary, and was the Superintendent in charge of the Signalling Section. This unit, formed in 1914, sent Morse code messages about approaching aircraft to their headquarters by means of a wiring system affixed to tram standards.
