1st Northumberland Artillery Volunteers Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet and Named Tin c. 1878-1901, a fine quality example, the skull complete with all silver plated fittings, the frontal plate of Royal Arms pattern with ‘First’ top scroll double wheel cannon and bottom scroll ‘Northumberland Artillery Volrs’, buff leather sweatband with crimson silk lining and retailers label ‘G.Downie, Clayton Street, Newcastle on Tyne’, the plate is original to the helmet; the carrying tin with brass plaque to ‘H. J.Brackenbury Esq, 1st Northumberland Arty Vols’, the bottom title scroll on the helmet plate is fractured at one end, the carrying tin hinge part detached, otherwise very fine overall condition (2) £300-400
