Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 2 clasps, Defence of Lucknow, Lucknow (John Pitts, 90th Lt. Infy.) nearly extremely fine

John Pitts was born at Alton, Hampshire, in 1838, and enlisted into the 48th Foot at Parkhurst, Isle of Wight, on 8 November 1855, aged 17 years 7 months. He transferred as a volunteer to the 90th Light Infantry on 1 March 1857, and the following month embarked for service in China. En-route, however, the regiment was diverted to India and took part in the operations against Lucknow as part of Havelock’s First Relief Force, and at the capture of Lucknow on 21 March 1858. William Pitts died on ‘Line of March’ on 5 May 1858.
