Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 1 clasp, Cape Colony (G. H. Clifton, Surgeon.) nearly extremely fine £200-240
George Herbert Clifton was educated at the University of Edinburgh, and was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1863. He was appointed Staff Assistant Surgeon, Royal Army Medical Department at Chatham in 1866, and served with the Department in Mauritius in 1868. After a period on half-pay, he was appointed to the 105th Foot in early 1871, before resigning his commission in December 1873. He served in South Africa during the Boer War as a Civilian Surgeon employed locally, with the Royal Army Medical Corps in the Cape Colony (additionally entitled to a King’s South Africa Medal with two clasps). In 1903 he was living in Cape Town, South Africa.
