Allison Dewitt Rafuse was born in Kentville on 10 October 1925 and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on 10 September 1943. He saw service towards the end of the War, joining No. 426 (Thunderbird) Squadron (Halifaxes) in March 1945 and served as a Tail Gunner on operations over Germany in April 1945. Discharged at the end of the War he re-enlisted into the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1949 and served until 1972, being awarded the Canadian Decoration in 1959 and a Second Award Bar in 1970. He also served for many years as a scout leader, volunteer fireman, and hockey coach. He died in Nova Scotia in 2006.
