R.A.) contemporarily engraved naming, top left-hand lug missing, unofficial retaining rod between clasps; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Lucknow (Gr. & Dr. Mattw. Owens, 12th Bn. R. Arty.); Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue (M. Owens. Mathew/Matthew Owens was born in Guilsfield, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire, in 1829. He attested for the Royal Artillery at Kidderminster in November 1848, and served with them during the Crimean War and the Indian Mutiny. Owens was discharged, 17 May 1870, having served 21 years and 45 days.
