Herbert Hedley Dyer, CEO Engineering (Signals and Telecommunications), president of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers 1946-7; educ. Derby and Christ’s College, Finchley; joined Midland Railway in Derby as an apprentice, 1907; resident engineer of the electrified lines between Bow Road and Barking; transferred back to Derby with the L.M. & S.R., 1929, then to Watford, 1938; retired 31 December 1951
