Howard Crossle was born on 4 December 1879. Qualified Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Medicine, Diploma in Surgery (Ch.B.) and Bachelor Artis Obstetricae, Trinity College, Dublin, 1901. Lieutenant, Indian Medical Service, 26 July 1902, Bombay Command; Officiating Medical Officer, 16th Bombay Infantry, 4 November 1902; Officiating Medical Officer, 42nd Deoli Regiment and Agency Surgeon at Haraoti and Tonk, 19 May 1905; Captain, July 1905; transferred to Civil Employment and appointed officiating Consular Surgeon at Khermanshah, Persia, 20 May 1906; Officiating Agency Surgeon at Muscat, 1910; Qualified (distinction) Diploma in Tropical Hygiene, London 1911; Major, January 1914; Diploma in Public Health, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Ireland) 1914; Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Cambridge 1914; Agency Surgeon and Civil Surgeon in Hazara 1914-1919; Agency Surgeon and Civil & Jail Surgeon at Peshawar, and Medical Officer to the Mohmand Militia, 15 October 1917; Inspector-General of the Jail Department and Chief Medical Officer to the North West Frontier Provinces Government, 26 January 1919. Surgeon-Major Crossle died at Peshawar on 26 January 1919.
