A 9ct gold leaf brooch/pendant, by Geoffrey Bellamy for Ivan Tarratt, the brooch composed of a spray of three plain polished leaves with an articulated matching drop below, hallmarked for Birmingham, 1964, signed ‘Geoffrey G Bellamy’ and ‘Ivan Tarratt, Eng’, together with a pair of matching earstuds, hallmarked for Birmingham, 1965 and bearing maker’s mark ‘SA’, brooch/pendant length 10.3cm. £160-200
Goldsmith and silversmith Geoffrey Bellamy (1922-1977) studied at the Birmingham College of Art. He then trained at the Royal College of Art in London, alongside silversmiths including Gerald Benney and Robert Welch. He and David Mellor were the first two students to gain first class honours in the silver degree course. He began producing small items for the retailer George Tarratt in Leicester and then formed a silver production company in partnership with Ivan Tarratt. In later life, he taught and became head of the Sheffield College of Art.
