13th (Prince Albert’s Own) Light Infantry Regiment Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1878-81, the skull complete with all gilt metal fittings, the frontal plate of crowned star pattern back plate with laurel and Garter overlays, in the centre on a ground of black velvet a silver bugle horn with XIII within the strings, a mural crown above and a scroll above the crown ‘Jellalabad’, buff leather sweat band, no lining, a supplier’s trade label for Samuel Gardner & Co., 1, Clifford St., London, W, period ink inscription on the canvas lining ‘T Keppel’, the plate original to the helmet, together with a japanned metal carrying tin this with brass plaque ‘W.Boyle Esq., 2nd West Yorkshire Royal Engineers Vols. the chin chain short on the helmet some buckling to the front metal trim and a dent to the skull around the quadrant (2) £400-600
