Pair: Private T. Stockley, Gloucestershire Regiment
Korea 1950-53, 1st issue (19143746 Pte T Stockley Glosters); U.N. Korea 1950-54, unnamed as issued, the first a Replacement issue, the ‘R’ having been neatly erased, nearly extremely fine (2) £140-180
Thomas Stockley was born on 16 May 1928 in Little Bloxwich, Walsall. He served with the Gloucestershire Regiment during the Korean War in ‘A’ Echelon at the Battle of Imjin, April 1951. He is mentioned in Captain Anthony Farrar- Hockley’s book ‘The Edge of the Sword’, when describing the Battalion HQ area on the eve of the Battle: ‘Here were Corporal Watkins, Stockley, and the cook-house helpers ready to make the next meal on their improvised ranges.’
Stockley avoided being taken prisoner of war, and it is probable that he left the army on completion of a five year engagement in 1953.
