An Order of St. John group of three awarded to Divisional Surgeon J. A. Hislop, St. John Ambulance Brigade

James Alexander Hislop was born in Jarrow, Co. Durham, on 12 September 1899, and was educated at the University of Durham. He qualified as a Physician on 5 February 1924. The Medical Register for 1927 confirms Dr. Hislop's qualifications as M.B., B.S., M.R.C.S., and L.R.C.P. He was Medical Officer of the local St John Ambulance Brigade First Aid Post in Cambridge during the Second World War, and one of a two-man team in the Research Section of the Department of Human Ecology at Cambridge University from 1955 to the mid-to late 1960s. He died in Cambridge on 13 June 1979.
