The York and Lancaster Regiment Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1881-1901, the skull complete with all gilt metal fittings, the frontal plate of crowned eight pointed star pattern with laurel and gilt overlays, in the centre on a ground of black cloth a rose in silver and gilt, silver bottom scroll ‘The York & Lancaster Regiment’, buff leather sweat band with crimson silk lining, the plate not original to the helmet and is in fact fitted with three screw post fasteners, together with its japanned metal carrying tin this with brass plaque ‘W.Tozer, Esq., The York & Lancaster Regt.’, the helmet skull with some loss of pile, the lining part detached from the sweat band and the front peak trim with slight buckling, otherwise good overall condition (2) £400-500
