Pair: Lieutenant Frances A. L. Helem, Canadian Women’s Army Corps

Frances Anne Liberty Helem was born in Calgary, Alberta, in 1918, and joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps on 14 February 1942. Following basic training she took a Motor Transport course and drove for 9 months, before moving to the Administration branch. She served during the Second World War in Calgary, Alberta; Kemptville, Ontario; Barrie Field, Ontario; and Montreal, Quebec. Promoted Platoon Sergeant on 16 December 1942, she was commissioned Second Lieutenant on 2 April 1943, and was promoted Lieutenant on 2 July of that year. She retired her commission on 30 January 1946, and subsequently married Mr. M. O. Chipperley.

Sold together with the recipient’s Officer’s cap badge and collar badges; two shoulder tabs’ three lapel pins; large and small C.W.A.C. buttons; C.W.A.C. blazer badge; two Canada shoulder tabs; a Second World War Auxiliary Forces armband; the recipient’s door sign ‘Lieut. F. A. L. Helem’; and a R.C.A.F. New Testament and Church of England Fight the Good Fight book.
