Defence Medal 1939-45; together with two Safe Driver Medals, one a 5 year award with clasps, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1956; the other a 10 year award with top brooch bar ‘1957’, and additional riband and top brooch bar ‘15 Consecutive Years, 1962’, very fine and better (5) £40-50
Henry Sheppard was born in Wanborough, Berkshire, and attested for the Royal Berkshire Regiment on 29 December 1914. He served during the Great War with the 2nd/4th Battalion on the Western Front; was wounded; and was discharged on 15 July 1918 (entitled to a Silver War Badge). He died in Newbury, Berkshire, in 1957.
Sold together with the recipient’s cloth covered Army Small Book, including pasted-in Army Form B 2078 Mounted Infantry Certificate.
David R. Sheppard was a lorry driver for Berkshire County Council in 1939 and a member of the ARP during the Second World War. He joined the Postal Service as postman in Newbury in 1947.
