Arthur William Arnold was born in Maidstone, Kent, in May 1880, and attested for the Royal Marines at Chatham, in March 1898. He served with H.M.S. Endymion, June 1899 - September 1902, during which time he landed with the Naval Brigade in China. He advanced to Corporal in June 1903, and Lance Sergeant in February 1905. He was reduced to Private in November of the latter year, before being promoted Colour Sergeant in January 1916. He served at H.M.S. Pembroke (Chatham), January 1907 - June 1919. Arnold was discharged 12 July 1919, and died in July 1958.
