Scotland, John Baliol/Alexander III (1292-6), mule Sterling, First coinage, rev. class E, two mullets of six points, two stars of seven, 1.64g/11h (Holmes/Stewartby Ba4/Eii; SCBI 35, 298; B 2a, fig. 211A; S 5065/5056). A little creased and flat in places, otherwise good fine, the reverse struck from a rusty die, excessively rare £500-700

Holmes and Stewartby (BNJ 2010, pp.107ff), list only four specimens of this mule, three with a 24 point reverse die and one from the same die as the present coin. Of those, one is in the Ashmolean, one in the National Museum of Scotland, while the other two are in Lord Stewartby’s Collection
