Phillip Coles Perry enlisted at Barnstaple, Devon, on 26 August 1836, aged 22 years. He served 21 years with the Plymouth Division, R.M.; 15 years of which being service ‘afloat’. He served aboard H.M.S.
Wellesley during the First China War and on H.M.S. James Watt in the Baltic 1854-55.
