Herbert Charles Hartford Wozonzoff Moffat was born on 11 October 1880. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the South Wales Borderers, 21 February 1900, promoted to Lieutenant in February 1903. Served in the Boer War with the 2nd Battalion. Was slightly wounded at Bufflesdoorn Pass, 1 December 1900. Took part in operations in the Transvaal, west of Pretoria, August-29 November 1900; Orange River Colony, June-August 1900 and operations in the Transvaal, 30 November 1900-31 May 1902. Served as Local Transport Officer from 17 August 1901. To Army Motor Reserve in July 1907. Served as Temporary Captain (Staff Captain) No.9 District, Eastern Command, with effect from 5 October 1914. Appointed Temporary Captain, Assistant Provost Marshal in 1916. Latterly ranked as Lieutenant-Colonel. Post war his home address was The Old Manor House, Whitton, Middlesex.
