Hutchison, D.F.C., Royal Air Force’, good very fine (6) £200-250

David Hutchison was commissioned Pilot Officer in the R.A.F.V.R. in March 1943 and was awarded the D.F.C. in respect of gallant service as an Air Gunner in No. 102 Squadron (London Gazette 1 June 1943). At the time of being recommended for his award, he had flown 52 sorties:

‘This officer has a fine record of achievement. Now on his second tour of operational duty he has taken part in attacks on various objectives in the Middle East and some of the most heavily defended targets in Germany. His aircraft has been damaged by enemy action four times and on one occasion was forced to descend in the desert. A cool and reliable Air Gunner in whom his fellow crew members have complete confidence, Pilot Officer Hutchinson has always displayed courage, skill and determination of a high degree.’
