The regimental history confirms that the 2nd Battalion, 4th Gurkha Rifles participated in operations on the North-West Frontier of India between 1936 and 1939 and was accordingly eligible for both clasps. The Battalion went on to serve in North Africa - where most of its members were captured - and in the Italian campaign. It remained in the Indian Army after the Partition and Independence in 1947.
