Pair: 2nd Lieutenant J. L. Ellis, Royal Field Artillery
British War and Victory Medals (2 Lieut. J. L. Ellis), polished, otherwise very fine (2) £60-80
Ellis originally enlisted in the Union Defence Forces and appears to have witnessed active service in German South-West Africa with the 1st South African Infantry. Commissioned in the Royal Field Artillery in October 1917, he went to France as a 2nd Lieutenant in 148th Brigade, R.F.A. His MIC reveals that he was living in Durban at the time of applying for his awards in July 1924 and that the South African authorities were investigating his entitlement to the 1914-15 Star.
