Original signed approval by Queen Victoria in respect of bonnets to be worn by the Highland Light Infantry Militia, dated at the War Office on 29 April 1869 and further signed by Edward Cardwell, Secretary of State for War:
‘Most humbly submitted to Your Majesty. That the Officers of the Inverness, Banff, Moray and Nairn, or Highland Light Infantry Militia, be permitted to wear on State occasions, a Bonnet similar to that worn by Officers of the Highland Light Infantry Regiments of the Line ... ’
