R.S.P.C.A. Margaret Wheatley Cross, bronze, reverse inscribed, ‘Specimen’, complete with brooch bar, extremely fine, rare £100-140
A specimen example of the R.S.P.C.A’s. highest award. It was named in memory of Margaret Wheatley, a 16 year old girl who was killed by a train at Grange-over-Sands on 4 June 1936 while saving her dog that had become trapped on the railway line.
70 crosses have been awarded; some 32 awarded posthumously.
