Henry Ernest Hawkes joined the 170th Battalion Canadian Infantry on 29 April 1916 at Toronto, Ontario. Serving with the 75th Battalion (Mississauga) Canadian Infantry he was killed in action during a trench raid on 1 March 1917 and was buried in La Chaudiere Military Cemetery, Vimy, France. His name is also recorded on the Massey Harris War Memorial in Toronto. With copied war diary extracts.
