Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps, Cape Colony, South Africa 1901 (W. I. Bruce, M.B. Ch.B. Surgeon) good very fine £140-180

William Ironside Bruce was the son of William Bruce, M.D. and Agnes Ironside, of Dingwall. Educated at Edinburgh Academy and Aberdeen University. Served as a Civil Surgeon in South Africa, serving at No. 15 General Hospital, Howick, Natal, 1899-August 1900 and at No. 14 General Hospital, Newcastle, South Africa, August 1900-May 1901. In May 1901 he was invalided home to England aboard H.M.S. Simla. Returning to Aberdeen University he gained the degrees of M.D. and D.P.H. and began practising in London soon afterwards at Charing Cross Hospital. Latterly he was Physician in Charge of the X-Ray Departments at Charing Cross Hospital and the Hospital for Sick Children at Great Ormond Street. Was the author of several papers on the subject of X-Rays and their use. With copied research.
