India General Service 1895-1902, 1 clasp, Punjab Frontier 1897-98 (3945 Pte. R. F. Bletcher, 11th Hussars) contact marks, nearly very fine £120-160
Richard Bletcher, a Seaman, attested for the Corps of Hussars in Liverpool on 23 November 1894, aged 22 years. With the 11th Hussars he served in India, September 1895-October 1899; Egypt, October 1899-December 1900; South Africa, January 1901-October 1902, and India, October 1911-January 1913. Appointed a Shoeing Smith in 1899; Farrier Sergeant in 1902; Farrier Staff Sergeant in 1904; Farrier Quartermaster Sergeant in 1907, and Farrier Sergeant-Major in 1909. Served with the 18th Mounted Infantry during the Boer War. Awarded the Queen’s medal with five clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902. He was discharged at his own request on 28 January 1913. In 1914 he went to Africa as a missionary. With copied service papers, roll extracts and other research.
