Fred Guthrie was born in and enlisted at Leeds. Serving in the West Yorkshire Regiment he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 4 January 1915. Serving in the 2nd Battalion, he was killed in action during the battle of the Somme on 25 October 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
