Walter Bird was born, lived and enlisted at Leeds. Serving with the 1st Battalion K.R.R.C., he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 13 August 1914. The 1st K.R.R.C. served in the 6th Infantry Brigade, 2nd Division, in Haig’s I Army Corps. Bird was killed in action at Ypres on 27 October 1914, aged 35 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He was the husband of Frances M. Bird, of 52 Worcester Road, Droitwich, Worcestershire. With copied research. Entitled to a clasp to the 1914 Star.
