Leslie Vernon Peacock was born on 4 February 1893, son of The Rev. R. Peacock. Educated at Marlborough and at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge where he gained an Agriculture Diploma, part 1, 1914. From a Cadet in the Cambridge O.T.C. he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 6th Cyclist Battalion Suffolk Regiment (T.F.) in November 1914, being appointed a Temporary Lieutenant in December that year and Lieutenant in June 1916. He was attached to the M.G.C. in March 1916 and transferred to the Indian Army in August 1917, attaining the rank of Captain in August 1919. During the war he served in France and Palestine. Post-war he served in Waziristan. Peacock retired from the Army in 1923. Taking Holy Orders, he graduated from the Sarum Theological College in 1938. He was ordained a Deacon and Priest in 1939 and served as Curate at West Grinstead with Partridge Green, 1939-41. During the war he served as Chaplain to the R.A.F.V.R. 1941-46. He was afterwards Vicar of Selmeston with Alciston, 1946-53 and Perpetual Curate of Chideock, Dorset, 1953-59.
