M.I.D. London Gazette 22 December 1939. ‘... in recognition of distinguished services rendered in connection with operations in Palestine during the period 1st April to 30th July 1939.’
George Howard Dumbleton was born on Spike Island, Cork and enlisted on 18 January 1911, aged 14 years. Embarked for France on 2 July 1916 with 27th Reinforcement group for the 2nd Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. Served in France, 1916-19; wounded 26 October 1917. Also served in the Gordon Highlanders and the M.G.C. during the Great War. Later served as 29966110 Private and Lance-Corporal with the 1st Battalion; M.I.D. for Palestine and awarded the Jubilee 1935. Transferred to the Devonshire Regiment on 19 October 1940.
