During the Second World War James S. M. Gray served as Leading Air Mechanic in the Royal Air Force. Served in the Canadian Airborne Infantry, 1950-56. Served with the U.S. Army Reserve, 1956-84.

M.S.M. to ‘Sergeant First Class James Stewart Murray Gray, United States Army Reserve.’ ‘For meritorious service while serving as Compound Commander from June 1956 to June 1977 and as the Assistant Provost Sergeant from June 1977 to June 1984 for the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 160th Military Police Battalion (Confinement Facility), Tallahassee, Florida. During this time Sergeant First Class Gray performed his duties in an exemplary manner. His outstanding dedication, loyalty, and devotion to duty contributed immeasurably to the success of his unit. His untiring efforts and high personal standards during this period were in keeping with the highest level of military standards and traditions and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Reserve.’

Army Achievement Medal to ‘Gray, James Stewart Murray, SFC, 266-58-2382, 160th MP Bn (CNF FAC) 222 Ausley Road, Tallahassee, Florida’ ‘For serving as Assistant Provost Sergeant, for the 160th Military Police Battalion (CNF FAC), United States Army Reserve, Tallahassee, Florida, performed his duties in an exemplary manner. His outstanding dedication and devotion to duty contributed immeasurably to the success of his unit. His high personal standards during this entire period of duty are in keeping with the highest level of military standards and traditions and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army Reserve.’

Army Achievement Medal, First Cluster to Sergeant First Class James S. M. Gray, 266-58-2382’ ‘For meritorious service while serving as the 317th Military Police Assistant Operations Sergeant at Camp Blanding, Florida during the period 7 thru 20 April 1984. Sergeant First Class Gray demonstrated exceptional knowledge of combat military police operations and proved an invaluable asset to the operations section. His professional competence, positive attitude and dedication to duty were sterling examples for others to emulate. His contributions during the ARTEP impacted positively on the battalion. Sergeant First Class Gray’s performance and devotion to duty are in keeping with the United States Army Reserve.’
