Three: Cook Bhagsing Ale, 4th Gurkha Rifles, a prisoner-of-war of the Germans

39-45 Star; Africa Star; War Medal 1939-45, these officially named, ‘5329371 Cook Bhagsing Ale, 4 G.R.’ very fine (3) £50-70

Cook Bhagsing Ale was probably captured, following the near annihilation of his battalion, 2/4th G.R., after the battle of the Cauldron, prior to the fall of Tobruk in May/June 1942. Serving with his pre-war number ‘34’ Bhagsing Ale was listed as a P.O.W. He was held at Stalag 4DZ at Annaburg, with the P.O.W. number 8216. With copied roll extract which lists his service number as ‘34’ which differs from that on the medals.
