Six: Serjeant N. C. Gilbert, Suffolk Regiment

Gilbert is believed to have enlisted c.1924-25. In 1928 he features in a photograph with other members of ‘A’ Company 1st Battalion winning shooting team, wearing one good conduct stripe. Appointed a Bandsman in the early 1930’s. With the 2nd Battalion he served in China and India, being ranked as an unpaid Lance-Corporal in March 1936 with the 2nd Battalion in Shanghai. Appointed to paid Lance-Corporal in India, March 1937. Later promoted to Sergeant and saw service in N.W. Europe during the War.
