William G. Miller was born in Baillieston, Glasgow. He enlisted into the 4th Regiment at Glasgow in December 1854. Served in the Crimea and received the Queen’s medal with clasp for Sebastopol and the Turkish Crimea Medal. Served in India, 1857-70 and was awarded the Indian Mutiny Medal. Later transferred to the Bombay Artillery and then to the Royal Garrison Artillery. Returning to England in 1870 he served with the Coast Brigade R.G.A. in the Portsmouth forts. Discharged on 4 May 1880. Latterly worked at the Cowlairs locomotive works before retiring to Rothesay on the Isle of Bute.
