Frederick John Smith was born near Aldershot. A Porter by occupation, he attested for the 2nd Life Guards at Regents Park Barracks on 29 October 1889, aged 21 years, 1 month. With them he served in South Africa, December 1899-November 1900. Awarded the Long Service Medal per A.O.77 of 1908. He claimed his discharge, having given notice, on 4 July 1911. As a Chelsea Pensioner he died on 3 February 1951. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
