Gartmore Banking Co, One Guinea, 16 May 1791, no. 10/08, signed by James Graham, cashier and William McFarlane, notations on back (Douglas –). Damaged edges, a 25mm split at top of centre crease, a couple of other edge splits and small holes in body, otherwise intact, good to very good, extremely rare £600-800
The village of Gartmore, near Aberfoyle, lay on a main droving route for cattle brought down from the Highlands. Very little is known about this bank which may have been established to cater for the cattle trade. It is believed that only some five notes from it have been recorded to date
