Henry Dawes was born in Redland, Bristol on 25 February 1873. A Groom by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Marines at Bristol on 25 June 1890. At the time of the Boxer Rebellion he was based at the Naval Depot at Wei-Hai-Wei and served in the Pekin Relief Expedition. With copied service papers.
