Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (4234 Tptr. C. A. Marcham, 7th Hussars) slightly bent/slack suspension post, contact marks, fine £100-150

Charles Alfred Marcham was born in Shepherd’s Bush, London and enlisted in the 7th Hussars in April 1896, aged 14 years. Appointed a Trumpeter in September 1899, he served in South Africa from November 1901 to December 1905. Appointed a Bandsman in April 1906; transferred to the Royal Artillery in March 1908. In early August 1914 he passed instruction for 1st Class Gunner and Gunlayer but did not go to France until February 1918, in the interim he served as a Bandsman with the Royal Artillery Mounted Band, from which unit he was finally discharged in May 1919.

In addition to his entitlement to the British War and Victory Medals, Marcham was also the recipient of an Army L.S. & G.C.
