Walter Brett was born in Sheppards Bush, London. A Carman by occupation and a former member of the 4th Battalion Middlesex Regiment, he attested for the Commissariat and Transport Corps on 13 September 1882, aged 19 years. With the unit he served in Egypt, February-August 1885. With copied service papers and roll extract.
