Sutlej 1845-46, for Ferozeshuhur 1845, no clasp (Serjt. James Metcalfe, 29th Regt.) contact marks, very fine £350-450

James Metcalfe was born in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. A Joiner by occupation, he attested for the 29th Regiment at Sheffield on 7 April 1829, aged 21 years. He served in the East Indies for over 5 years. Promoted Corporal in November 1835 and Serjeant in 1838. Wounded in at action at Ferozeshuhur, 21-22 December 1845 - suffering a gunshot wound to the left thigh. Discharged as being unfit for further service on 22 September 1847. With copied discharge papers.
