At the outbreak of war the 11th Hussars were stationed at Aldershot. They entered France on 16 August 1914 as part of the 1st Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division.

Private Alan Higginson, 11th Hussars entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 15 August 1914. Awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. in 1927. With copied m.i.c.
