Henry Whitehead was born in Oldham, Lancashire. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for short service in the Imperial Yeomanry at Manchester on 21 February 1901, aged 30 years, 2 months. He served in the 77th (Manchester) Company, 8th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa, March 1901-August 1902 and was discharged at Aldershot on 18 August 1902. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
