Thomas Kenneth Barnsley was born in Edgebaston, Birmingham. Educated at KIng Edward’s School, Birmingham and Trinity College, Cambridge where he gained a B.A. (Hons). Commissioned a Lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards, he entered France on 11 September 1916. As a Captain in the 1st Battalion he was killed in action on 31 July 1917, aged 25 years and was buried in the Canada Farm Cemetery, West Vlaaderen, Belgium. Shortly after his death he was gazetted a mention in despatches for his war services. T. K. Barnsley was the son of Brigadier-General Sir John Barnsley and Lady Barnsley, of 20 Westfield Road, Edgebaston.
